Trim, Ceilings & Specialty Finishes

Crown molding, wainscoting, shiplap and statement ceilings — the craftsmanship details that make a house feel custom.

Detail & Finish Work

The Details That Elevate a Home

Anyone can roll a wall — it's the detail work that separates a good paint job from a great one. For more than 10 years, Miguel and the Painting With A Smile crew have finished crown molding, wainscoting, board-and-batten and shiplap accent walls, and tray, coffered and tongue-and-groove ceilings in homes from Vero Beach and Stuart down to Jupiter and West Palm Beach.

We also stain and refinish natural wood — breezeway ceilings, staircases and front doors that Florida sun has faded — bringing back the warmth and depth that make Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches homes feel truly custom.

Common Questions

Trim & Specialty Finish FAQs

Can you refinish a faded front door?

Yes — front door refinishing is one of our specialties. Florida sun and salt air are brutal on doors, especially stained wood and fiberglass. We sand back the weathered finish, repair any damage, then apply fresh stain or paint and a UV-resistant topcoat so your entry looks rich and welcoming again.

Do you install trim, or just paint it?

We paint, stain and refinish existing millwork — crown molding, wainscoting, baseboards, doors, ceilings and more. If you're having new trim installed, we coordinate closely with your carpenter or contractor so caulking, priming and finish coats happen at the right stage for a seamless result.

What sheen is best for trim?

Semi-gloss is the classic choice — it's durable, wipeable and gives trim that crisp definition against flatter wall finishes. Satin is a popular softer alternative for a more modern look. We'll show you samples of both during your free estimate so you can see the difference in your own lighting.

How do you get such crisp lines between wall and trim?

It comes down to prep and a steady hand. We caulk every gap between trim and wall, sand surfaces smooth, use high-quality tape where it helps and cut in freehand where experience gives a cleaner edge. The result is a razor-sharp line where trim color meets wall color — no bleed, no wobble.
